SUPPORTING ESTATE GROWN HAWAII NONI AND ENCOURAGING CONSUMERS TO PURCHASE AND SUPPORT ESTATE GROWN HAWAII NONI AND THE LOCAL NONI INDUSTRY.
WHEREAS, the Noni plant, and the juice made therefrom, is used as an alternative herbal medicine that has been utilized for centuries by holistic healers of the South Pacific and Asia; and
WHEREAS, Noni juice is used to treat general imbalances of the respiratory, digestive, and immune systems; and
WHEREAS, the juice is also used to treat a wide variety of ailments including cancer, diabetes, arthritis, hypertension, and pain; and
WHEREAS, the local Noni industry has developed a production method that makes Noni juice shelf stable for ocean shipment, enabling it to do well in the growing Asian and United States mainland marketplaces; and
WHEREAS, the popularity and great demand for Noni has also produced bogus and counterfeit Noni products that threaten legitimate Noni farmers and producers in Hawaii; and
WHEREAS, in response to these bogus Noni products, the local Noni industry has embarked on the Estate Grown method of packaging and marketing agricultural produce and products that follows in the footsteps of Kona Coffee farmers; and
WHEREAS, the Estate Grown method is a form of quality control that clearly and explicitly identifies the specific grower or farmer producing the Noni juice on the packaging so that consumers know exactly what they are getting and from whom; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Twenty-third Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2005, that this body supports estate grown Hawaii Noni and encourages Hawaii consumers to purchase and support estate grown Hawaii Noni and the local Noni industry; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this Resolution be transmitted to the Governor, the Director of Business, Economic Development, and Tourism, the Chair of the Board of Agriculture, and the Hawaii Farm Bureau.
